Frequently Asked Questions

How long does each therapy session last?

Therapy appointments typically run about 50-55 minutes.  Shorter appointments can be arranged if needed.  Couple therapy appointments sometimes require a longer appointment, of about 90 minutes, which would be decided upon before we meet.

What can I expect in my first appointment?

Before we meet I will send you some paperwork to complete online.  You will have an opportunity to ask questions.  I will ask you questions to get to know you better and understand what brings you to therapy.  We will decide together if we are a good fit and develop goals for treatment.

Can I use my health insurance to pay for services?

Individuals have an option to use insurance or pay privately.  I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY, Independent Health, and Aetna.
Couple therapy is private pay only.

Why don't you accept insurance for couple therapy?

Insurance companies require an identified client, a mental health diagnosis, and evidence of treatment for the diagnosis.  EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) for couples does not meet the criteria for insurance reimbursement because both partners are the clients, we are working on problems in the relationship, and it is not a treatment for a mental health diagnosis.
